Fiskars: The Torby | 1 night
The Torby offers guests high quality and sustainable accommodation and experiences all year around. The hotel is situated in the Old Cutlery Mill where Fiskars has manufactured cutlery and scissors during 19th and 20th century. The hotel holds 24 hotel rooms, five meeting spaces and a sauna.
Turku: Scandic Plaza or similar | 2 nights
A comfortable hotel with a popular and laid-back restaurant in the centre of Turku, along a promenade and next to the Market Square. The Hansa shopping centre is located across from the hotel, and the banks of the Aurajoki River are just a short walk away.
Mariehamn: Pommern or similar | 3 nights
Located in the centre of Mariehamn, has welcomed travelers since the late 1960’s. The hotel is now completely rebuilt and expanded to comprise 95 modern and comfortable rooms. The hotel boasts a spacious restaurant including a stylish wine bar and a cozy lounge. A large wine selection and the finest Nordic cookery, with local ingredients and seasonal variety, will be served throughout the day.
Travel program
Day 1 | Arrival Helsinki (D)
Welcome to Helsinki – the capital of Finland! Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport and take you for a 3-hour guided tour around Helsinki. See the most interesting places and get a proper glimpse of Helsinki’s past and present. The welcome dinner at your hotel.
Day 2 | Helsinki – Lohja – Fiskars (B/L/D)
Let the journey begin. Now you’ve seen Helsinki, but there is so much more for you to explore. Today we will visit the Tytyri limestone mine which is 100 meters below ground level. In the end of the visit, you will see a wonderful light show. Lunch will be served at a local Applewineyard with a small tour around the farm and a wine tasting with some snacks. The day ends at his historical Fiskars Village with a guided tour and a 40min glass making show at the Glass master’s studio. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant next to your hotel.
Day 3 | Salo – Turku (B/L)
After a good night sleep in cozy Fiskars, we will continue towards Finland’s oldest city, Turku. On our way, we will stop for lunch at Wiurila Manor. Before we continue towards Turku, you can choose between a guided tour at the historic Manor or a walk in nature along small roads to a local lake. As we arrive in Turku, you get to relax on own. An evening walk along Aura River is something we’d recommend doing!
Day 4 | Turku (B/D)
The day begins with a guided tour of Turku. You get to visit Turku Cathedral, the Handi crafts Museum, and Turku Castle. During the tour, you’ll get familiar with the medieval life of Turku and of the whole of Finland, as well as the life of craftsmen in the 19th Century. Afternoon continues with an archipelago cruise to Vepsa tourist island on a scheduled ferry. Duration approx. 2h. Ferry has a little bar with alco/non-alco drinks. Also, the possibility is to choose a half-day cruise to Naantali. Overnight in a hotel in Turku.
Day 5 | Åland Island (B/L/D)
It’s time to say bye to Turku and hop on the Viking Line cruise line. The boat leaves in the morning and after your lunch on the cruiser, you will reach the Åland Islands! Your local guide will meet you at the harbour and take you for a quick spin around the Capital of Åland, Mariehamn. Visit the Pommern ship museum and then head towards your wonderful hotel in Havsvidden. Relax at your hotel and enjoy the hotel’s dinner.
Day 6 | Åland Island (B/L/D)
Sleeping in the archipelago is surely great. Enjoy your breakfast with some gorgeous views over the sea. Today you get to discover Åland’s most famous sights with your local guide; Castle of Kastelhom, Jan Karlsgård open-air museum, the fortress of Bomarsund, Taffel Chips factory shop and Uffe på Berget cafeteria with one of the best views overlooking Åland. Lunch will be served at a lovely local restaurant owned by Åland’s best chef. It will be an eventful day, and, in the evening, we will go back to Mariehamn where you will overnight and enjoy your dinner.
Day 7 | Åland Island (B/L/D)
Our adventure on Åland continues with some history about the islands. We will visit the Eckerö Mail and Custom’s house which worked as the Russian border post to Sweden for over one hundred years. Enjoy some local chocolates before heading to Åland’s hunting and fishing museum. On our way to lunch, we will stop at a lovely local church in Eckerö. Homemade lunch will be served at the local Stallhagen Brewery. After lunch, you’ll visit the brewery and taste their beer. Before its time to say goodbye to Åland (for now), you will get to experience a proper dinner at a local house. After welcoming drinks, have a seat and enjoy Chef Anders’ inspirational buffet. During your visit, you also get to walk down to the lake and enjoy some coffee/tea and Maria’s pastries. Maria may also play some piano in the greenhouse while you enjoy your dinner.
Day 8 | Back to Turku by ferry (B/D)
Enjoy your breakfast at your hotel and enjoy some free time before heading on your cruise. From Åland, you have the option of continuing to Stockholm, Sweden or back to mainland Finland. Cruise towards Turku leaves in the afternoon and arrives in the evening. Lunch on your own in Mariehamn before going to the harbor. During your cruise to Turku, you get to enjoy the beautiful archipelago. You have access to your cabin where you can store your luggage and get some rest. The dinner buffet will be served on board. At the Turku harbour, you will meet your driver who takes you to your hotel for a night of good night’s sleep.
Day 9 | Departure (B)
Enjoy your breakfast before checking out and transferring to Helsinki airport. Flight back home on your own arrangements.
