Travel program
Day 1 | Arrival in Helsinki (D)
Upon arrival in Helsinki, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to the city centre by local train (approx. 25 minutes). Accommodation is arranged at a centrally located hotel such as Scandic Grand Central Helsinki, situated next to the railway station and within easy reach of key sights. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided excursion to Seurasaari Open-Air Museum. Transfer from your hotel (approx. 30 minutes). During this relaxed visit, discover traditional Finnish wooden architecture and learn about rural life through the centuries. The peaceful island environment is also home to curious red squirrels, often approaching visitors—especially if you bring unsalted nuts. A coffee break with Finnish pastries is included at the museum café. Duration approx. 3–3.5 hours. Dinner at Restaurant Olo or a similar venue highlighting refined Nordic cuisine. Overnight in Helsinki.
Day 2 | Nature Experience in Nuuksio National Park (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.This morning, head to Nuuksio National Park, located approximately 45 minutes from Helsinki. The excursion is designed to be gentle and suitable for all fitness levels. A guided walk takes you along scenic forest paths, offering insights into Finnish nature, wildlife, and traditions. Enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings and opportunities for bird spotting. Lunch and coffee are served at Haltia Nature Centre, featuring local specialties and pastries. Return to Helsinki in the early afternoon. Dinner at Restaurant Aino or a similar Nordic restaurant. Overnight in Helsinki.
Day 3 | Sibelius Heritage & Valamo Monastery (B/L/D)
Breakfast and check-out. Depart Helsinki for Järvenpää (approx. 50 minutes). Visit Ainola, the former home of composer Jean Sibelius. During a guided tour, explore the house and gardens while learning about his life and artistic legacy in a lakeside setting that inspired much of his work. Continue by coach towards Valamo Monastery (approx. 4 hours). A lunch stop will be arranged en route in Lahti or Mikkeli, in a scenic lakeside location. Arrival at Valamo Monastery in the evening. Accommodation at Valamo Hotel (subject to availability). Dinner at the monastery restaurant, featuring seasonal and regional dishes.
Day 4 | Monastery Life & Koli National Landscape (B/L/ D)
Begin the day with breakfast and the possibility to observe monastery routines. A guided visit introduces the Valamo Treasures exhibition, displaying icons, liturgical artefacts, and historical objects. The tour also includes the monastery church, offering insight into Orthodox traditions. Duration approx. 2 hours. Lunch at the monastery. Continue to Koli National Park (approx. 1.5 hours) through the picturesque lake district of eastern Finland. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided panoramic walk in Koli National Park. The route follows the famous viewpoints of Ukko-Koli, Akka-Koli and Paha-Koli along well-maintained paths, suitable for all participants. The guide will share stories of Koli as Finland’s national landscape and its role in inspiring artists such as Jean Sibelius and Eero Järnefelt. Check-in at Break Sokos Hotel Koli, offering spectacular views over Lake Pielinen. Dinner and overnight in Koli.
Day 5 | Lake Pielinen & Leisure (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel. Experience the landscape from a different perspective on a scenic cruise across Lake Pielinen. This easy and relaxing excursion offers breathtaking views of Koli’s cliffs and forests from the water. A light lunch and sparkling wine toast are included on board. Duration approx. 3–4 hours. Free afternoon to relax. Access to hotel spa and sauna facilities is included. Dinner and overnight at Break Sokos Hotel Koli.
Day 6 | Savonian Flavours & Alvar Aalto Architecture (B/L/D)
Breakfast and check-out. Drive to Kuopio (approx. 1.5 hours). Upon arrival, visit the lively market square and indoor market hall, known for local culinary traditions. Taste kalakukko, the region’s iconic fish pie, and browse stalls offering regional products and handi-crafts. Lunch is served here in a casual setting. Continue to Jyväskylä (approx. 2 hours). Visit the Alvar Aalto Museum, dedicated to Finland’s most internationally recognized architect and designer. The visit provides insight into modern architecture and design philosophy. A short city tour highlights Aalto’s buildings, the university area, and lakeside scenery. Dinner and overnight at Boutique Hotel Yöpuu, a charming property located in a historic building. The hotel offers individually designed rooms and a renowned restaurant, creating a cosy and memorable stay.
Day 7 | Tampere & Finnish Design Heritage (B/L/D)
Breakfast and check-out. Travel to Tampere (approx. 2 hours). Enjoy a walk in the Pyynikki ridge area, a peaceful forested landscape just outside the city centre. Visit the observation tower café, famous for its freshly made doughnuts. Continue to Iittala (approx. 50 minutes). Visit the Iittala Glass Museum and Design Village, where you will learn about Finnish glassmaking traditions and design heritage. Enjoy time to browse boutiques and outlets. Lunch included. Return to Helsinki (approx. 2 hours). Farewell dinner at Restaurant Savoy or Kappeli. Overnight at NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa or similar centrally located hotel.
Day 8 | Departure (B)
Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Private transfer to Helsinki Airport.
