Travel program

Day 1 | Arrival day – Welcome to Lapland & transfer to Ylläs (D)

After landing at Kittilä Airport, the group will be warmly welcomed by a local representative. A comfortable private coach transfer will take you to Ylläs (approx. 50 minutes), offering beautiful views of the untouched Lappish scenery along the way. Upon arrival in Ylläs, transfer to the accommodation and check-in. Time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Lapland before the evening arrangements
Dinner at hotel included

Day 2 | Hike in the forests and swamps of Äkäslompolo (B/D)

Breakfast at hotel. Warming up the legs and getting to know the terrain in the area. We head out to the lower areas of Pallas-Ylläs National park, passing by some pristine pine and spruce forests as well as crossing frozen bog areas. A snack and hot drink is included. A day to get the body used to the equipment in relatively easy, flat terrain. Duration: 3h. Distance & climbing: 3–7 km, 100–200 m. Exact route depending on the group and weather conditions. Dinner at hotel included.

Day 3 | Let’s go up! (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. Now that the warm-up is done, on the second day we aim at reaching one of the fell (our rounded mountains) tops of the area. On a clear day, for example fell Kellostapuli provides us with marvelous views over the other tops of the Southern end of the national park. We’ll enjoy a light lunch either in a cozy wilderness café or in a kota hut around an open fire. Duration: 4–5h. Distance & climbing: 6–9 km, 250–400 m. Exact route depending on the group and weather conditions. Dinner at hotel included.

Day 4 | Time to head North (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel. The longest day ahead! We drive an hour to the Pallas area (around in the middle of the Pallas-Ylläs national park) that offers us some of the most iconic Finnish sceneries seen from the fells, towards endless forest and lake areas of Western Lapland, all the way across the Swedish border as well. The Pallas area is located almost entirely above the treeline, so on a windy, white-out day we’ll have a proper adventure waiting for us there. Of course, if the conditions get dangerous, we adjust the plan and spend the day in lower areas in the central part of the national park. Lunch included. Duration: 5–7h, including transfers. Distance & climbing: 5–8 km, 300–400 m. Exact route depending on the group and weather conditions. Dinner at hotel included.

Day 5 | Recovery in the dark  (B/D)

Breakfast at hotel. After two long days, it’s time to relax a little bit. During the day, one may enjoy the peace of the accommodation, go skiing on the quiet slopes of Finland’s biggest (in terms of altitude difference) ski resort, or join an ice fishing, snowmobile, reindeer or a husky tour (not included, to be booked in advance).
Guided programme of the day only starts in the evening, at around 19:00, with a leisurely paced evening snowshoe tour. In case we are treated with a clear sky, we head to open areas with perfect views to the stars and possible northern lights. In case of clouds or snowfall, we focus on enjoying the magical peace that only a dark, snowy forest can provide. Duration: 2,5–3h. Distance & climbing: 2–4 km, max. 100 m. Exact route depending on the group and weather. Dinner at hotel included.

Day 6 | Departure (B)

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Private transfer to the Kittilä Airport.

Note: program indicative, activity days may vary.

B=Breakfast | L=Lunch | D=Dinner
